A doctoral dissertation was discussed at the Faculty of Medicine /
University of Kufa. Wisam Hashim Baqir, a student from department of
Biochemistry tagged his thesis as (The impact of ANGPTL3 and ANGPTL4
gene polymorphism on lipoprotein lipase in coronary artery disease
patients. A Theoretical and clinical study). The study evaluated the effect of
two single gene polymorphisms (SNP) of the angiopoietin 3 (ANGPTL3)
gene (rs11207997, rs34483103), as well as two single gene
polymorphisms (ANGPTL4) (rs1044250, rs2010871) on lipoprotein lipase
(LPL) in patients with Coronary arteries. The study revealed that the
haplotype (TC) of the single genetic polymorphisms (rs11207997) and
(rs34483103) of the angiopoietin 3 gene is a risk factor for the development
of coronary heart disease, while the single genetic polymorphisms
(rs2010871) of the angiopoietin 4 gene are protective in the study sample
of Iraqi Arabs.
