A master thesis was discussed at the Faculty of Medicine / University of Kufa . Farqad Najm Al-Zubaidi, a student from the department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, tagged her thesis as (the potential neuroprotective effect of Empagliflozin on cerebral ischemia and reperfusion in rats). The study aims to investigate the extent to which Empagliflozin can reduce the neurological damage caused by hypo perfusion and reperfusion in rats. The results showed that Empagliflozin reduced nerve damage caused by hypo perfusion and reperfusion by reducing neuronal death by increasing neuronal safety factors represented by the neuroprotein NeuN, as well as lowering levels of inflammatory factors (IL-1 beta and ICAM-1), in addition to its antioxidant effect.
