Faculty of Medicine Holds a seminar on the basics of food selection

The department of pharmacology at the Faculty of Medicine held a seminar entitled “Health Basis for Food Selection”. Assistant Prof. Hussein Abdul Kadhim said that The seminar aimed to inform the attendees about the most important foodstuffs in the Iraqi market and the basic specifications for selecting food suitable for public health.             Dr. Kadhim stressed on the importance of avoiding food additives, he also stressed on paying full  attention to the nutritional risks resulting from negligence, the most important of which is the knowledge of the producer or exporter of the product, the date of production, ways of saving food, genetic treatments and chemical additives. He again stressed on the criteria of validity and the procedure to be taken when eating improper food. The seminar concluded by suggesting some recommendations such as the joint cooperation among the members  of all faculties within the university and in collaboration with the Food Control Department of the Directorate of Health and Agricultural Environment to form a Food Control Jury with a special laboratory to evaluate the nutritional items. The other recommendation was to urge  Participants in the seminar to promote the concept of healthy food in families and society as a whole and to encourage researchers to adopt research on biological and chemical food contamination tests, and finally tests for the validity of food and additives to ascertain the rate of digestion of food ingredients.
